Salmon & Trout Fishing Association - Fly-fishing in Devon
Courses & Tuition

For newcomers to the sport of fly fishing it is recommended that one does consider taking lessons from an experienced and qualified instructor. Yes, one can be taught by a friend BUT if that friend has casting faults you could inherit his for life! Better to at least learn the basics of the art of fly casting from an expert. In addition, if you are a real beginner you will also learn more, including the art of actually catching fish, how to find them, what fly to use and why.

You may of course consider yourself to be a competent fly caster and feel you don't need lessons. Maybe, maybe not! However the actual art of fly casting can be compared to developing a perfect golf swing. Even the golfing greats quite often have to seek advice from instructors!!

One hour at a Casting Clinic could save you hours of poor casting on a river.

Courses for JUNIORS!

An important part of Branch activities is to introduce young people to the fascinating world of fly fishing. With the support of the Salmon & trout Association we run two Junior Days a year where our Fly Fishing Instructors provide one to one tuition on local still waters in Devon. As the number we can handle is limited we do suggest that anyone who would like to register should contact our chairman, Lt Col J D V Michie as soon as possible at the beginning of each year. He can contacted on tel 01837 871156 or by email to duncmcnen @ aol.com

He would be pleased to hear from you.
